What are the requirements for taking the ARE?–NAAB, IDP/AXP, NCARB!
When first entering architecture school to become architects, most students don’t really know the answer. So make sure you know before you go!
The three “easy” steps are:
1. NAAB: Go to school. You must attend an accredited school, currently certified by NAAB. Make sure your degree is from an NAAB (National Architectural Accrediting Board) accredited school.
2.IDP/AXP: Work for an licensed Architect. The process from NCARB (National Council of Architectural Registration Boards) called IDP (Intern Development Program) provides candidates with a broad range of experiences. Completion of the IDP (Intern Development Program) usually takes 3-5 years based on type of experience and mentorship. The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards is a nonprofit corporation comprising the legally constituted architectural registration boards of the 50 states, the District of Columbia.
3. NCARB: Passing grades on the 7 sections of the ARE (Architect Registration Exam).
